A Mixed Start for the Steelers

Following the Pittsburgh Steelers' 20-13 season-opening win over the Atlanta Falcons at Acrisure Stadium, quarterback Aaron Rodgers offered a blunt critique of the team's performance. While acknowledging the victory, the 42-year-old signal-caller highlighted several areas where the team fell short of its potential.

Speaking with reporter Pam Oliver, Rodgers noted that while the team executed well in certain phases, there were frustrations regarding consistency. «I think we did a lot of good things out there,» Rodgers remarked. «We had a chance to be really, really explosive. We had a couple drops, a couple off targets, a couple non-calls, looked like penalties.»

Rodgers specifically pointed to missed opportunities that could have widened the scoring gap. «We had a 40-yard PI. It could have been a touchdown. We had a couple other ones — could have been big plays. So, you know, we were just a little bit off.»

Reunion and Leadership Praise

Despite the offensive hiccups, Rodgers expressed deep satisfaction in reuniting with head coach Mike McCarthy. The duo, who previously spent over a decade together with the Green Bay Packers, are now aligned for Rodgers' final NFL season. «I’m enjoying it for sure,» Rodgers shared. «To be back here with Mike, about to give him this game ball, which will be really special.»

The veteran quarterback also took time to laud his teammates for their leadership on the field. He singled out linebacker T.J. Watt for an «unbelievable» performance, noting, «He’s been on a different level this entire camp. I’m so proud of him. I love the way he leads.» Additionally, Rodgers praised defensive tackle Cameron Heyward, describing him as «the epitome of a Pittsburgh Steeler.»

The Final Chapter

This season marks the culmination of an illustrious 22-year career for Rodgers. Having entered the league in 2005 with the Packers, followed by stints with the New York Jets, Rodgers is now wrapping up his storied journey in Pittsburgh.

Looking toward his post-football life, the veteran confirmed earlier this year that he intends to step away from the spotlight to focus on his personal life. Rodgers recently shared his excitement about the future, stating his intention to settle into a quiet life with his wife, Brittani, and to prioritize starting a family, looking forward to physical recovery after more than two decades in professional and collegiate sports.
