Details of the Alleged Incident

An on-duty Baltimore police officer, identified as Daniel Oxendine, has been taken into custody following serious allegations of sexual assault. Authorities report that the incident took place at a woman's residence shortly after Oxendine had offered a ride home to the woman and her child.

According to the Harford County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation into the matter began on June 3, after a woman from Edgewood sought medical attention at a local hospital emergency department, where she reported that she had been sexually assaulted.

Events Leading to the Arrest

Charging documents cited by local media indicate that police had initially responded to a domestic disturbance involving the woman on June 2. Following the call, the woman expressed a need for transportation to her residence in Edgewood. Oxendine’s supervisor reportedly granted permission for him to drive the woman and her son home.

Upon arrival at the victim's apartment, the situation allegedly took a criminal turn. Prosecutors claim that shortly after the woman and her son entered their home, Oxendine appeared at the door under the guise of ensuring their safety. Once inside, he allegedly instructed the woman to have her son leave the room before proceeding to sexually assault her.

Legal Proceedings and Investigation

Following the assault, a sexual assault kit was administered, and forensic evidence was collected. The Harford County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the arrest warrant was issued after DNA test results conclusively identified Daniel Oxendine as the perpetrator.

Oxendine faces multiple serious charges, including:

  • Two counts of first-degree rape
  • Two counts of second-degree rape
  • Two counts of a law enforcement officer engaging in a sexual act with a victim or witness of an investigation

Current Status of the Case

According to a spokesperson for the Baltimore Police Department, Officer Oxendine has been suspended without pay. During his initial court appearance on August 28, a judge denied him bond, citing concerns that the officer posed a significant danger to the community.

Investigators are currently looking into the possibility that Oxendine may have been involved in similar illicit activities. The agency is actively working to determine if there are additional victims or unreported incidents connected to the officer.
