A Slow Start to a Long Romance
Although Christine Taylor and Ben Stiller have been a Hollywood fixture for over twenty years, the couple didn't always foresee a permanent future together. During a recent appearance on the We’re Still Here, Babes podcast, 55-year-old Taylor candidly shared that their relationship began with low expectations.
Both actors were fresh out of other relationships when they met, leading them to categorize their budding romance as a temporary distraction. “We both thought it was our sort of rebound romance, because I had just broken up with someone, and he was just getting out of something,” Taylor explained. “We were just having fun and enjoying our time together.”
She noted that they kept their early dating life private, sharing the news only with their closest inner circle rather than their wider group of acquaintances.
From Whirlwind Romance to Marriage
What started as a casual fling quickly evolved into a serious commitment. Taylor described the period as a “whirlwind romance” that eventually led to a major life decision. The couple tied the knot in May 2000 and welcomed their daughter shortly after. Throughout their marriage, the pair frequently collaborated on screen, notably in films such as Zoolander and Dodgeball.
Navigating Separation and Reconciliation
The couple famously separated before finding their way back to one another. Ben Stiller touched upon their reconciliation in a 2022 interview, describing it as an unexpected positive outcome of the pandemic. Taylor echoed this sentiment during a 2023 appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, noting that the split was not a decision made lightly.
“Family was always a priority, but I think Ben and I both started to grow in different directions,” Taylor shared regarding their decision to part ways years ago. However, the forced proximity brought about by the global health crisis provided a turning point:
“We all ended up in our house together with two teenagers and we found this way back. We had so much time to talk, there were no other distractions. It just happened organically.”
