Staying Active Beyond the Century Mark

Even after hitting the incredible milestone of his 100th birthday in December 2025, legendary actor Dick Van Dyke shows no signs of slowing down. The Mary Poppins icon remains committed to his physical health, recently offering his social media followers a rare look into how he maintains his vitality.

The Inversion Table Technique

On Saturday, August 29, Van Dyke posted a clip on Instagram demonstrating his use of an inversion table. In the video, the actor is seen positioned upside down, performing exercises that help stretch his entire body. He reinforced his core philosophy to his audience with a simple piece of advice: “Keep moving.”

Van Dyke detailed his approach to aging and health in his 2025 book, 100 Rules for Living to 100: An Optimist’s Guide to a Happy Life. He explains that he is not the type of person to stay idle, noting that he begins to feel stiffness in his joints if he skips his gym sessions for too long.

Overcoming Sluggish Days

The actor admits that even he has days where he feels reluctant to exercise. To stay motivated, he incentivizes his workouts with small rewards:

“A huge smoothie and/or frothy caffeine treat after my workout, full-body tingly exhilaration, sharper mind, sense of accomplishment to bask in for the rest of the day, [and] nap time [that is] well-earned.”

The Circuit Training Routine

Beyond inversion therapy, Van Dyke utilizes a dedicated circuit of exercise equipment. He explains his process as moving from one machine to the next in a continuous loop, starting with sit-ups. He and his partner, Silver, prefer to tackle their routines early in the morning to fuel their day with energy.

Music plays a crucial role in his success. “It’s the music that really gets me going. By the end of my workout, I’m in a sweaty rush, the blood flowing from fingertips to toes and my spirits are soaring,” he shared.

A Legacy of Healthy Choices

Reflecting on his longevity, the star credits his past lifestyle adjustments for his continued well-being. “I got rid of booze and cigarettes and all that stuff, which is probably why I’m still here,” Van Dyke noted. It is a testament to the idea that it is never too late to prioritize one's health and maintain a positive, active outlook on life.
