A Tribute on Stage
Harry Styles marked the two-year anniversary of the passing of his former One Direction bandmate, Liam Payne, with a poignant musical tribute. While performing at Madison Square Garden during his Together, Together Tour on October 16, Styles shared a deeply personal moment with his audience.
Before introducing the unreleased track, titled "What Is Enough," the 32-year-old singer reflected on the significance of the venue and the people who have supported his journey. "I feel incredibly lucky to get to play these shows here in New York, and this building means a lot to me," Styles told the crowd. "There are so many people in my life, friends and people that I’ve worked with, that I wouldn’t have been able to do this without. And two years ago today, I lost one of those friends."
"I’m gonna play you a song I wrote for my friend about two years ago, if that’s all right," Styles shared with the audience.
Remembering Liam Payne
Liam Payne passed away in October 2024 at the age of 31 following a tragic fall from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires. His death left fans and his former bandmates—Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik—devastated.
Following the tragedy, the remaining members of One Direction issued a joint statement, expressing their profound grief and vowing to cherish the memories they shared with their "brother." Styles also honored Payne on social media, describing him as a person who "lived wide open" and possessed an "infectious" energy for life. In a previous interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music, Styles noted the unique difficulty of losing someone he felt such a deep connection with, calling Payne a person with "the kindest heart who just wanted to be great."
