Vice President JD Vance has pushed back against claims that the current administration is hesitant to disclose documents related to Jeffrey Epstein. Appearing on The View, Vance reiterated that President Donald Trump is dedicated to an open disclosure process. Vance noted that he participated in the administrative discussions regarding the declassification of these records.
Vance asserted that the administration has consistently prioritized transparency. He further claimed that the documentation reveals a contentious dynamic between the two men, noting, «One of the things that you see in the Epstein emails is that Jeffrey Epstein hated Donald Trump and that Donald Trump literally reported Jeffrey Epstein to the police.»
Legislative Action on Epstein Documents
The administration’s push for disclosure was formalized in November 2025 with the enactment of the Epstein Files Transparency Act. This law requires the Department of Justice to publish all non-classified investigative files, including communication records and travel logs associated with the late financier. Epstein, who was accused of serious sex trafficking crimes, passed away while in custody in 2019.
Addressing Documentation Backlogs
When asked why a significant portion of the files has yet to reach the public, Vance pointed to systemic court-related delays and the prevalence of redundant paperwork. He stated, «My understanding is that a lot of those are duplicates that have already been released. We’re not holding anything back.»
Furthermore, Vance dismissed speculation that the President acted under the influence of congressional Republicans. Regarding media narratives, he remarked:
«The idea that Donald Trump runs around afraid of Republican congressmen as opposed to the other way around is kind of crazy. Don’t believe everything that you read in any newspaper... There are things that are true. There are things that are false and there are things that are totally missing context.»
Background and Commitment to Accountability
President Trump has long maintained that he was not privy to Epstein's criminal operations. Trump has stated that his relationship with Epstein ended more than 20 years ago following reports that the financier had solicited employees at Mar-a-Lago. Addressing the nature of the situation, Vance told the panel:
«I think it’s crazy that you have this guy who is clearly a sex predator who is hanging out with a lot of very wealthy and powerful people. That really bothered me. I don’t know what’s there, of course. Nobody knows exactly what happened unless you were there, but that really bothered me and I wanted to have full transparency.»
