A Rapid Romance in the Big Brother House

Longtime Big Brother enthusiast and Unlocked cohost Jerry O’Connell recently weighed in on the whirlwind romance between Rome Seymour and Lyric Medeiros, following the recent departure of the pickleball coach from the game.

Reflecting on the pace of their relationship, O’Connell noted, “These two were together for hours, and they were already dropping love bombs. This guy was dropping an L-bomb. I think 12 hours into their relationship.”

The Significance of the ‘Have-Not’ Bed

Beyond the rapid emotional progression, O’Connell found the couple’s intimate interactions on the show's notoriously uncomfortable “Have-Not” bed particularly notable. These beds, which are circular wooden planks that rotate, serve as a stark contrast to the standard living conditions in the house, where participants often endure strict diets and cold showers.

“He said on a wooden rotating bed, ‘I want to make babies with you.’ … I mean, that is the power of the Big Brother house,” O’Connell joked. “That is why Big Brother is the best unscripted show on TV.”

Strategic Implications of the Showmance

O’Connell also touched upon Rome’s strategic approach to the game. Initially viewed as an “alpha” figure gathering support, Rome’s gameplay drew significant attention. “He was a newbie. He wasn’t one of the icons from Survivor. I really felt he was the only one who could really go for the king and queen... He just had a showmance. I think that rubbed a lot of people the wrong way,” O’Connell explained, adding that the relationship likely increased Rome's profile as a threat to other players.

For O’Connell, this season of Big Brother is particularly significant as he serves as a cohost for the companion series Unlocked alongside past winners Taylor Hale and Derrick Levasseur. Discussing his role, he added, “I am the one who personally [breaks] the news. I am brave enough to go into the Big Brother house and I extract. I’m like Odysseus in the Odyssey. I extract information out of the Big Brother house. It is huge news. It will affect the rest of the season.”
