A Connection Forged Through Health Challenges
Bachelor Nation star Joe Amabile recently shared his appreciation for actress Busy Philipps, who provided invaluable support as both navigated their respective recoveries from brain tumor surgeries. During the September 15 episode of his podcast, Not Married to This, the 40-year-old reality personality credited Philipps with helping him find the right medical care.
“I talked to Busy Philipps and she told me, ‘I love my care team at NYU,’” Amabile recalled. “Busy actually got me into NYU to see Dr. John G. Golfinos.”
Shared Medical Journeys
Amabile underwent a procedure to remove an early-stage brain tumor this past July. His friend, 47-year-old Philipps, revealed in August that she had also undergone a brain operation following a diagnosis of a grade 2 oligodendroglioma—a rare, slow-growing tumor.
According to Amabile, the two found a unique bond in their circumstances: “She had a very similar story and a similar finding. Mine’s on the left side, hers is on the right side. Her surgery went well.”
The Importance of Selfless Support
Amabile and his wife, Serena Pitt, emphasized that Philipps went above and beyond to offer guidance while she was simultaneously managing her own health crisis.
“She’s been wonderful,” Amabile stated. “The conversation I had with her really made me feel OK. It was pre-surgery, and she made me feel very confident going into the procedure.”
Pitt echoed this sentiment, highlighting Philipps' altruism: “Busy is a great example of someone who had nothing to gain from reaching out and asking if we wanted her help. She was so selfless with her time, constantly messaging to check in. We cannot thank her enough.”
Ongoing Recovery
Philipps has remained a constant source of support, even engaging in lighthearted banter with Amabile on social media regarding their healing processes. In early September, Philipps shared her own positive prognosis, confirming that her six-month follow-up MRI showed no signs of a tumor.
Regarding his own progress, Amabile is currently in what he describes as a “months-long journey.” His wife, Serena Pitt, provided an update on his status:
“You’re doing so well and recovery has been pretty good for the most part. We’re still in it for a while. We’re not fully back to normal; we’re kind of in our new normal.”
