Sentencing Details

A man has been sentenced to prison following a series of sexual abuse incidents targeting three young girls at a T.J. Maxx store in New York. Jimmy Harry Velasquez Gomez, 44, was sentenced on Friday, October 9, to three concurrent six-year prison terms, followed by 10 years of supervised release. The sentencing comes after he pleaded guilty to three counts of first-degree sexual abuse on August 27, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.

Details of the Crimes

According to authorities, the incidents occurred while the victims were shopping with their families. Investigators utilized surveillance footage from the store to confirm the defendant’s presence during each assault.

The first incident occurred in April 2025, when the defendant targeted a 7-year-old girl in the toy aisle. Prosecutors stated that he approached the child and touched her inappropriately. The second case took place in September 2025, involving an 11-year-old girl. According to the District Attorney's office, the defendant approached the child, touched his own genital area through his clothing, and then physically assaulted her.

Official Response and Legal Status

Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney condemned the actions in a statement:

«Every parent should be able to let their young child walk to the next aisle at a store without fear. This defendant violated that basic trust three times, targeting young girls in places where they should have been safe.»

Velasquez Gomez, a Honduran national, is currently in the country illegally. Following his prison sentence, he is expected to be taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which has filed a detainer. The court has also issued protection orders to ensure the defendant remains away from the victims, and he is required to register as a sex offender.
