Ryan Gosling Takes the Reins as Ghost Rider
In a highlight of the San Diego Comic-Con 2026, Marvel Studios stunned the audience in Hall H with the official confirmation that Ryan Gosling has joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The 45-year-old actor is set to headline a 2028 reboot of the Ghost Rider franchise.
The project will reunite Gosling with director Shawn Levy, known for his work on Deadpool & Wolverine. Gosling, a long-time fan of the character, noted that this is a role he has pursued for years. During the panel, Levy praised the actor, stating, «Let’s ride, we’ll see you in 2028.»
The character of Ghost Rider, an antihero who trades his soul to the demon Mephisto, has a rich history in Marvel Comics dating back to 1972. While this new iteration will be part of the MCU, it remains distinct from the earlier films starring Nicolas Cage.
David Jonsson to Lead Black Panther III
Acclaimed director Ryan Coogler confirmed his return to the helm for Black Panther III. Alongside Marvel Studios executive Kevin Feige, Coogler introduced David Jonsson as the star of the upcoming sequel.
Jonsson is slated to portray T’Challa II, the son of the late King T’Challa. The character was originally introduced in the closing moments of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Expressing his gratitude for the opportunity, Jonsson remarked, «I don’t want to say too much because I want to let the screen do the talking, but believe me, the honor is entirely mine.» The film is currently slated for a 2028 release.
First Look at Avengers: Doomsday
Marvel provided an exclusive glimpse of new footage from Avengers: Doomsday, which centers on Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal of the formidable Dr. Doom. The clip depicts Doom on his throne in Latveria, setting the stage for an epic confrontation.
The footage suggests a complex narrative for the villain. As Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby) describes him in the clip:
«He’s always the smartest guy in every world. He used to be different. He used to be kind, he used to be caring … Everything he loved was taken from him. I knew he was lost but I did not realize that he was broken.»
The stakes are high, with Doom taunting the heroes and even deploying an army of Sentinels against them. Additionally, Marvel confirmed that Hayley Atwell will return as Peggy Carter, and fans were treated to a surprise appearance by Ryan Reynolds, who appeared in character as 'Jeanpool'. Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to hit theaters on December 18, leading into Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027.
