Crosby’s Perspective on On-Field Encounters
Las Vegas Raiders defensive standout Maxx Crosby recently provided some colorful commentary regarding his experiences facing Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. During the October 6 episode of his podcast, The Rush with Maxx Crosby, the conversation turned to the physical nature of their recent matchups.
When asked by cohost Brogan Roback if Mahomes reacts vocally when being tackled, Crosby offered a playful response, acknowledging the intensity that characterizes their division rivalry. The 29-year-old defensive end specifically pointed to the recent 30-27 victory for Kansas City on October 4, a game during which Crosby recorded three tackles and five quarterback hits.
A Rivalry Defined by Respect
Despite the aggressive nature of their play, Crosby was quick to emphasize that his actions are rooted in deep professional admiration. Reflecting on his interactions with the quarterback after big hits, Crosby noted:
«It’s just funny, every time I hit him he rolls over and then he just peeks at me. It’s always my face and I’m just staring at him. But it’s respect, bro. He’s the best quarterback of our generation, you know what I mean?»
Crosby highlighted that the intensity of their clashes is what makes divisional play so compelling. He added that he strives to be the best at his own position, and facing a competitor like Mahomes forces him to push himself to the absolute limit for the sake of high-level competition.
The Fine Margins of NFL Defense
Discussing the high-speed nature of pass rushing, Crosby admitted that he often finds himself wanting just a fraction of a second more to finalize a sack. He described several instances where he hit the quarterback and wasn't entirely certain if the ball had been released before the impact.
“You don’t know, you’re going so f*ing fast,” Crosby remarked about the split-second decisions that define his role on the field.
Looking Ahead
The two teams are scheduled to face off again on January 10 in Kansas City to wrap up the regular season. Following their latest contest, Mahomes acknowledged the challenge the Raiders presented, stating that it required his best effort to secure the victory. He also expressed appreciation for the atmosphere at Allegiant Stadium, noting the pride he feels when performing in such a competitive environment.
