Melissa Joan Hart recently opened up about her fitness journey, admitting she initially feared perimenopause would hinder her goals. In a new interview, the "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" star explained she lost nearly 20 pounds by making two key changes: eliminating sugar and alcohol from her diet.

Hart told PEOPLE she started taking her health seriously because she "wanted to feel better." She noted hormonal changes in midlife often lead to weight gain, but she experienced the opposite through fasting and cutting out sugars and alcohol. She hasn't had a drink in over a year.

The actress also discussed her past fear of gaining weight in Hollywood, especially during pregnancy. She previously lost weight by staying active with her child and eating smaller portions. Hart, who isn't a fan of water, now enjoys various teas instead.

Hart has been vocal about health before, urging women to get mammograms after her own cancer scare in 2019. A follow-up test cleared her, but she emphasized the importance of regular check-ups.
