The Future of Taylor Sheridan's Slate
Following reports of production shifts for the series Landman, Paramount+ has offered clarity regarding the show's status. Jane Wiseman, head of originals at Paramount+, recently discussed the network's ongoing commitment to creator Taylor Sheridan’s extensive portfolio of projects.
“Between Tulsa King and Landman, which Taylor is writing right now, Frisco King, Dutton Ranch, The Madison, we have a lot of business, and we’re going to be in business for time to come,” Wiseman stated. She emphasized that the network is focused on curating its lineup carefully rather than expanding too rapidly, noting that they have greenlit seven scripted dramas in the past year alone.
Strategic Changes and Industry Shifts
The landscape for Sheridan’s projects is evolving. It was previously reported that the creator secured a significant five-year deal with NBCUniversal, set to commence in 2029 following the expiration of his current Paramount contract. While Paramount will maintain the rights to established hits like Yellowstone, the upcoming deal with NBCUniversal will allow Sheridan to develop entirely new intellectual properties.
Production Delays and Timeline Adjustments
The production cycle for Landman has faced several hurdles. After its debut in late 2024 and a successful second season throughout 2025, the third installment has experienced multiple scheduling conflicts.
While filming for the third season was initially eyed for May 2026, it faced several postponements. Actor James Jordan clarified the current status of the project, stating:
“We start that sometime in September, and we’ll shoot that through the first quarter of next year. Then we should have it out … I don’t know when. It’s up to the powers that be, but we’re very excited to get started on that.”
Cast Negotiations
Although specific reasons for the filming delays were not formally disclosed, reports indicate that the production timeline follows a period of contract renegotiations. In June, the core cast of the series—excluding Billy Bob Thornton, who remains under a separate long-term agreement—successfully secured salary increases, marking a significant milestone for the show's ensemble.
