“I just heard from some, some other source that was an older photo, so I really don’t know,” Johnson stated. He emphasized that he has not been in direct communication with McConnell, though he expressed well wishes for his colleague's recovery, adding, “It’s sad to watch people age, no matter who that person is.”

The photograph in question was released on Sunday, July 12, accompanied by a formal statement regarding McConnell's health. The Senator has been under medical supervision since being discovered unconscious at his residence last month. In his statement, McConnell sought to clarify the details of his medical situation to alleviate public concern, particularly following the recent passing of Senator Lindsey Graham.

In his update, McConnell provided specific details regarding his diagnosis:

  • He explicitly stated he did not suffer a stroke or heart attack.

  • He revealed that he had been treated for a mild case of pneumonia while hospitalized.
