In 2016, Hadley found herself at the center of a criminal investigation that nearly cost her her freedom, only for authorities to later discover that she was, in fact, the victim of a sophisticated framing attempt.
The Fabricated Allegations
The conflict began after Hadley ended a relationship with Ian Diaz, a deputy U.S. Marshal. Following their split, Diaz and his new wife, Angela, began reporting anonymous threats. They claimed that Hadley was orchestrating a campaign of harassment, even going so far as to allege that she had solicited men on Craigslist to commit a “rape fantasy” involving Angela. The situation escalated when the couple staged incidents in their home, leading police to believe Hadley was a dangerous stalker. Based on these false reports, Hadley was arrested in June 2016 and spent 88 days in jail while facing potential life imprisonment.
The Investigation Reveals the Deception
The truth emerged through digital forensic analysis, which traced the harassing communications back to the Diazes rather than Hadley. Investigators confirmed that the online accounts used for intimidation were created by Angela. IP addresses and device logs eventually dismantled the couple's narrative, proving that the harassment was a scheme intended to force Hadley to relinquish her financial interest in a condo they had previously purchased together.
“At its heart, this is a case about the ‘blue wall of silence’ — law enforcement officers and officials enabling fellow officers to violate civilians’ rights,” the lawsuit filed by Hadley stated.
Legal Aftermath and Accountability
In January 2017, all charges against Hadley were dismissed, and Angela Diaz was subsequently arrested. Angela later pleaded guilty to 10 felony counts and received a five-year prison sentence. Following the resolution of the criminal case, Hadley pursued a civil lawsuit against the city of Anaheim, eventually reaching an undisclosed settlement in 2021.
