Investigation into Potential Quid Pro Quo
Kimberly Guilfoyle, the current U.S. Ambassador to Greece and former fiancée of Donald Trump Jr., is the subject of an official investigation by the State Department’s Office of the Inspector General. The probe follows serious allegations that she pressured a prominent financial backer of President Donald Trump to cover $100,000 in credit card debt.
The investigation centers on accusations made by Eric Deters, a long-time supporter and donor to the president. Deters claims that Guilfoyle proposed an improper quid pro quo arrangement, leveraging her connection to the Trump family in exchange for the financial assistance.
Details of the Allegations
In an interview with media outlets, Deters described the situation as an act of desperation, stating:
«She was so desperate for that $100,000. It was a quid pro quo. She said I could ask her for anything and everything in Trump world. There was no request too big.»
To substantiate these claims, Deters reportedly provided digital records, including text and Signal messages, which appear to detail the solicitation. According to these documents, Guilfoyle allegedly sought to utilize her influence to assist Deters with personal tax and legal matters.
One exchange reportedly shows Guilfoyle requesting an immediate payment, specifically instructing that the funds be wired directly to her American Express account to ensure the transaction remained discreet. Deters maintains that he did not fulfill the request and never sent the funds.
Official Response and Political Context
As of now, the State Department, the White House, the U.S. Embassy in Greece, and legal representatives for Guilfoyle have not provided comments regarding the ongoing investigation.
Vice President JD Vance addressed the situation during a press briefing, emphasizing that the claims remain unverified accusations. He stated:
«Let’s actually see what the facts are. We don’t try people in the court of public opinion. Let’s see what the truth is, and obviously if there was something bad that happened, then people have to suffer the consequences for it.»
Guilfoyle was confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the Ambassador to Greece on September 18, 2025. Her prior relationship with Donald Trump Jr. ended before the 2024 election, though the pair maintained privacy regarding their separation at the time.
