Following discussions regarding creator Taylor Sheridan’s upcoming shift to NBCUniversal, questions have surfaced about the longevity of the hit series Tulsa King. However, Paramount+ has confirmed that the show is not reaching its conclusion anytime soon.
Jane Wiseman, the head of originals at Paramount+, recently addressed the status of the show. She confirmed that the team is preparing to announce the premiere date for the fourth season, describing it as an "incredible season" where lead actor Sylvester Stallone is in "great form." Regarding the show's long-term prospects, Wiseman stated, "That show is continuing."
Strategic Expansion of the Sheridan Universe
When asked if the series could extend beyond the fourth season, Wiseman hinted at a robust slate of upcoming projects. She noted, "Between Tulsa and Landman, which Taylor is writing right now, Frisco, Dutton, Madison, we have a lot of business, and we’re going to be in business for time to come." Reports suggest that the production has been influenced by both financial considerations and narrative development, including a strategic shift in filming locations to take advantage of New York’s film tax incentive programs.
Behind-the-Scenes Evolution
The production of Tulsa King has seen several shifts in leadership. Originally, the series was spearheaded by Terence Winter alongside Sheridan. Following the renewal for a second season, Winter stepped down as showrunner due to creative differences, though he remained involved as the head writer. In a unique move, Sheridan opted not to replace the showrunner for the second season, instead appointing a director and executive producer to manage the daily production workflow.
Taylor Sheridan’s Future with NBCUniversal
Looking ahead, Sheridan has secured a significant five-year deal with NBCUniversal covering film, television, and streaming projects. This contract is set to commence on January 1, 2029, immediately following the conclusion of his current long-term agreement with Paramount. While Paramount will retain the intellectual property rights to existing franchises like Yellowstone, Sheridan is expected to develop entirely new content for NBCUniversal upon the expiration of his current tenure at Paramount.
