An Unexpected Health Battle

Tyler Mane, the 59-year-old actor known for his imposing roles in cinema and his background in professional wrestling, has publicly shared his health struggle. On Monday, June 8, Mane took to social media to reveal he has been diagnosed with a highly uncommon form of breast cancer.

According to data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, breast cancer in men is statistically rare, representing only about 1% of all breast cancer cases diagnosed in the country.

Raising Awareness Through Personal Experience

Mane is using his platform to shed light on this often-overlooked condition. In his social media posts, he highlighted that approximately one in 755 men will receive a breast cancer diagnosis during their life. He emphasized a crucial message regarding medical intervention: «If caught early, it’s VERY treatable.»

Following his second chemotherapy session on Tuesday, the actor maintained a defiant and positive attitude. In a video message to his followers, he stated: «I got this. I’m gonna kick cancer‘s ass. Thank you for coming along for the journey. We need to spread the awareness. Cancer sucks, but if you catch it quick enough, you can win this battle.»

A Distinguished Career in Hollywood

Tyler Mane gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of Sabretooth in the original 2000 X-Men film, a character he recently revisited for the 2024 blockbuster Deadpool & Wolverine. Beyond the X-Men franchise, he is well-remembered for stepping into the iconic shoes of Michael Myers in the 2007 Halloween reboot and its 2009 successor.

Reflecting on his return to the Marvel universe, Mane shared fond memories of reuniting with co-star Hugh Jackman. «We were shooting out in a rock quarry, and we’re about, I don’t know, 20, 30, feet away, and I saw him,» Mane recounted regarding the Deadpool & Wolverine set. «He saw me. We just kind of ran to each other and hugged each other like no time had passed. I was like, ‘Oh man, this is so cool!’»

Memories from the Set

In addition to discussing his recent health updates, Mane reminisced about the intense production requirements of the early 2000s films. He specifically recalled the arduous process his co-star, Rebecca Romijn, endured while transforming into Mystique.

«I would bring Rebecca cookies when she was getting ready. She’d be about eight hours into her costume, and I’d bring her a bag of her favorite cookies,» he noted, describing the challenging eight-hour makeup sessions that left the surrounding environment covered in blue residue.
