Casting Change Before Season Premiere
The upcoming season of Love Island USA will proceed without contestant Vasana Montgomery. The 25-year-old was scheduled to appear in the season 8 premiere on June 2, but has been removed from the lineup following the discovery of controversial social media content.
Two videos featuring Montgomery have recently circulated online. In one instance, she is seen singing along to a song containing a racial slur, while in a second clip, she is heard using an offensive term while playing an arcade game. It is understood that these videos were previously private, meaning they did not appear in initial background screenings conducted by production teams.
Fan Backlash and Production Response
Following the official announcement of the season 8 cast, these videos were leaked to the public. The discovery triggered significant backlash, with a large number of viewers demanding that the network remove Montgomery from the dating competition.
Prior to the controversy, the show’s official social media accounts had issued a request for fans to maintain a positive environment. A statement posted to Instagram noted, «The Villa runs on good vibes, and so does this community. We love seeing your reactions, opinions, and debates, but everyone deserves to feel safe and respected.»
A Pattern of Past Controversies
This situation mirrors similar incidents that occurred in 2025. During season 7, contestant Yulissa Escobar was removed from the villa after old podcast audio surfaced in which she used racial slurs. At the time, Escobar issued a public apology via social media, stating:
«I used [a slur] ignorantly, not fully understanding the weight, history, or pain behind it. I wasn’t trying to be offensive or harmful, but I recognize now that intention doesn’t excuse impact. And the impact of that word is real.»
Another contestant, Cierra, also faced public scrutiny in 2025 after past social media posts surfaced containing derogatory language. She subsequently released a video apology, expressing sincere remorse to those she had offended, particularly the Asian community, acknowledging that she was not the victim in the situation.
Love Island USA is set to debut on Peacock on Monday, June 2.
