Charlize Theron has reignited controversy by criticizing Timothee Chalamet for his February comments about ballet and opera. In a new interview, the Oscar-winning actress framed his remarks as careless toward art forms she believes still need strong public support.
Theron, who has a ballet background, joked she hoped to run into Chalamet one day. She called his comments "very reckless" and emphasized that people need "to lift up constantly" these art forms. She argued dancers are "superheroes" who push their bodies in "complete silence."
Theron also drew a contrast with screen acting, suggesting AI might replace film actors in a decade but could never replace a live dancer on stage. She stated, "We shouldn't [expletive] on other art forms," broadening her criticism.
The dispute originated in February when Chalamet said he didn't want to work in ballet or opera, describing them as forms people no longer cared about. His comments previously drew pushback from figures like Misty Copeland and Steven Spielberg. Chalamet has not yet publicly responded to Theron's latest criticism.
