Jim Bob Duggar, the patriarch from TLC's '19 Kids and Counting,' sent a jailhouse email blending support and stern admonishment to his son Joseph, who was recently released on bond after being charged with child molestation.
In the email, obtained by PEOPLE, Jim Bob expressed love but swiftly turned to reproach. "You have made some terrible decisions," he wrote, advising Joseph to pray for God's mercy while accepting that "major consequences" likely await. He urged his son to use his time to "point people to Christ."
Joseph Duggar pleaded not guilty to charges of lewd molestation of a child under 12, related to a 2020 incident in Florida. He was released from the Washington County Detention Center after posting a $600,000 bond. A family spokesperson said Jim Bob and Michelle are "heartbroken" and focused on supporting Joseph's wife and children.
This case marks the second Duggar son facing serious charges; Joseph's brother Josh is currently serving a 12-year sentence for child pornography. Joseph's lawyer stated their priority is ensuring he receives a fair trial despite his public profile.
