A Difficult Journey to Parenthood

Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker have shared an intimate look into the challenges they faced while growing their family. In the upcoming Hulu documentary Travis Barker: Love Is Louder Than Fear, the couple candidly discusses the heartbreak of a miscarriage that occurred before the birth of their son, Rocky.

During the premiere event at the Tribeca Film Festival, the couple reflected on the emotional toll of their journey. They revealed that Kardashian became pregnant in 2021, just six months into their relationship. They were expecting a daughter, whom they had planned to name Tulip, but were devastated to learn during a three-month checkup that the baby no longer had a heartbeat.

«When we lost the baby, we were devastated. We cried for days,» Kardashian shared in the documentary, which is set to premiere on Hulu on August 13.

The Challenges of IVF and Moving Forward

Following their 2022 wedding, the couple documented their efforts to conceive, including the exploration of in vitro fertilization (IVF). However, Kardashian noted that the process proved difficult, both physically and mentally. She expressed concerns about the effectiveness of egg freezing, noting that it is often misunderstood as a guaranteed "safety net" when, in many cases, embryos do not survive the process.

Ultimately, Kardashian decided to step back from IVF to prioritize her mental and physical well-being. She maintained a positive outlook, stating, «I think just being happy is most important and being a good parent to my kids. We are just embracing that whatever’s meant to be will be.»

A Terrifying Health Scare

Before welcoming Rocky in November 2023, Kardashian faced another frightening hurdle when she required emergency surgery while pregnant. While the procedure was successful, the ordeal had a profound impact on the star.

In a previous interview with Vogue, Kardashian reflected on the necessity of thorough prenatal care, noting that a routine ultrasound saved her baby's life. «That experience opened my eyes to a whole new world of pregnancy that I didn’t know about in the past,» she explained. Despite the fear that surrounded the pregnancy, she remained focused on the future, adding, «I’ve finally been able to let go of the fear and worry... I’m ready to go in, have the baby, and have the experience we’re meant to have.»

The couple is now raising their son, Rocky, alongside their children from previous relationships: Kardashian shares Mason, Penelope, and Reign with Scott Disick, while Barker is father to Landon and Alabama with ex-wife Shanna Moakler, and acts as a father figure to Atiana De La Hoya.
