A Difficult Health Challenge
Lauren Tom, known for her role in the iconic sitcom Friends, has recently shared some heart-wrenching personal news. The 64-year-old actress revealed that her 25-year-old daughter, Ellie, has been diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Tom expressed the gravity of the situation: «I wanted to share some tough news today. This is my beautiful daughter, Ellie. She is currently battling osteosarcoma, and my family and I are doing everything we can to aid in her healing.»
Seeking Strength and Support
Reflecting on the challenges ahead, Tom drew inspiration from the wisdom of Fred Rogers. She quoted the late television personality, noting: «When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’»
Tom took the opportunity to publicly express her deep gratitude to the medical staff at Cedars-Sinai Hospital, as well as the family and friends who have provided unwavering love and care during this difficult period. She closed her message by asking followers for their prayers and positive thoughts for Ellie’s full recovery.
Outpouring of Celebrity Support
Following the announcement, numerous peers and stars from the entertainment industry reached out to offer their encouragement. Actor Ken Jeong commented, «Sending all our love and prayers for Ellie. Anything we can do let us know. Love you.»
Other notable figures also sent their regards. Kurtwood Smith of That ’70s Show reached out with a supportive message, while Shrinking actress Lilan Bowden shared her own words of encouragement: «Ellie, sending you love and energy every day! You are so cool and we want you here with us! You’re in my thoughts a lot.»
Tom herself reaffirmed her belief in her daughter's resilience in the comments section, writing, «You are strong, brave and will recover from this completely to live a beautiful, meaningful life. You are so loved, Ellie, by everyone who knows you.»
