Melissa Gilbert has given her first interview since her husband, actor Timothy Busfield, was charged with child sexual abuse in New Mexico. Speaking to George Stephanopoulos on Good Morning America, Gilbert stated she believes Busfield is "the last person in the world who would hurt a child." She described the situation as "the most traumatizing experience of our lives" and said their life as they knew it is over.

Busfield was indicted on four counts of criminal sexual contact of a child. The allegations involve incidents reported between 2022 and 2024, including on the set of the series The Cleaning Lady. He has pleaded not guilty, calling the accusations "all lies."

Prosecutors have cited a history of misconduct allegations against Busfield dating back decades, including settlements and therapy agreements. Gilbert, while expressing support for her husband, had previously avoided public comment on the ongoing case. Busfield is tentatively scheduled for trial in 2027.
