A New Animated Icon on the Big Screen

Quinta Brunson, the acclaimed star and creator of Abbott Elementary, is preparing for her next major role. It has been confirmed that the 36-year-old actress and producer will star as the legendary Betty Boop in an upcoming feature film adaptation. The project is being developed under the banner of her production company, Fifth Chance Productions, in collaboration with Fleischer Studios and Mark Fleischer, the grandson of the character's original creator.

The Creative Vision Behind the Film

The film aims to dive deep into the history of one of animation's most enduring figures. According to reports, the narrative will focus on the origins and evolution of Betty Boop through the eyes of her creator, Max Fleischer. The plot will examine the intricate dynamic between the artist and his animated muse as he deals with the intense creative and professional challenges of establishing a cultural icon that eventually developed a personality of its own.

Brunson expressed her enthusiasm for the project in a public statement: «Betty Boop is one of our nation’s most beloved cartoon characters, yet somehow still remains pleasantly niche.»

Producer Perspectives

Mark Fleischer, 57, shared his excitement regarding the partnership with the Emmy-winning actress. He noted that the initial pitch left a significant impression on him, stating, «When Quinta first approached me with the unique concept of a movie about the relationship of my grandfather, Max Fleischer, and his creation, Betty Boop, I was breathtaken. Quinta so embodies Betty’s love of life, intelligence, humor, sassiness and compassion that the relationship between her as Betty and Max burst into life at its mere mention.»

Brunson’s Illustrious Career

This role marks another milestone in a career defined by critical acclaim. Brunson gained widespread recognition for her portrayal of Janine Teagues in the hit sitcom Abbott Elementary, a series she created inspired by her former sixth-grade teacher, Joyce Abbott. Her work has earned her significant recognition from the television industry, including two Emmy wins—one for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series and another for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.

The success of Abbott Elementary continues to grow, with the show recently wrapping its fifth season. Following its strong performance, ABC has officially confirmed that the series will return for a sixth season, further cementing Brunson’s status as a powerhouse in modern television.
