Production Tensions Lead to Departure
According to reports from veteran entertainment journalist Matthew Belloni in his recent Puck newsletter, actor Tom Hardy will not be part of the third season of the successful Paramount+ series MobLand. The decision follows a period of friction on the set during the production of the show's second season.
The report suggests that the 48-year-old actor faced criticism for frequent tardiness to the set. Furthermore, it is alleged that Hardy attempted to alter the scripted dialogue and frequently requested to provide his own notes on the screenplay during the production process.
Show Success and Background
MobLand, which debuted in March 2025, was executive produced by Guy Ritchie and created by Ronan Bennett. The series quickly became a major hit for the streaming platform, with Hardy also serving as an executive producer. Paramount+ officially renewed the project for a second season in June 2025, highlighting its significant viewership numbers.
Commenting on the show's initial success, Paramount co-CEO Chris McCarthy previously stated:
“With over 26 million viewers and climbing, MobLand has become a resounding triumph driven by the creative brilliance of Guy, Jez [Butterworth], Ronan and David C. Glasser, and brought to life by the powerhouse performances by Tom, Pierce, and Helen.”
Creative Outlook
Writer and executive producer Jez Butterworth previously shared his enthusiasm for the collaboration, noting that the production teams at Paramount and 101 Studios influenced his transition into television. “Collaborating with Chris, David, Guy and our stellar cast has been nothing short of inspiring and I’m excited to dive into the second season of MobLand,” Butterworth remarked during the renewal announcement.
Currently, the first season of MobLand is available for streaming on Paramount+. An official premiere date for the second season has not yet been confirmed.
