A Heartfelt Farewell on Set
Following the final episode of HBO’s hit series Euphoria, which aired on Sunday, May 31, lead actress Zendaya shared a poignant moment with the production team. During her last day of filming, the 29-year-old star delivered an emotional address to the cast and crew, expressing her deep appreciation for their support throughout the show’s tenure.
«Many of you have been here from the beginning and have watched me grow up,» Zendaya remarked during the tribute. «It’s been such a pleasure and an honor. Thank you so much.»
The Narrative Conclusion
The finale saw a somber turning point when the character Ali, played by Colman Domingo, discovered Rue deceased on his couch. The remainder of the episode shifted to focus on Ali’s pursuit of justice, eventually concluding with him visiting the farm where Rue had spent time during the season 3 premiere, offering a grace in her memory.
Sam Levinson Defends the Character Arc
Show creator Sam Levinson addressed the controversial decision to conclude the series with Rue’s death. He emphasized that the narrative was always intended to reflect the harsh realities of addiction.
«Zendaya’s performance has been so wonderful and layered over the course of these seasons. We fell in love with this character—this girl who was flawed but has a good heart,» Levinson stated. He further explained the artistic necessity behind the tragic ending:
«The honest ending is that people like Rue don’t make it. People relapse and they struggle. They aren't ready to get clean. I wanted to tell an honest story about addiction and the emotional turmoil that it creates.»
Levinson also referenced the passing of actor Angus Cloud in July 2025, noting that the current climate of fentanyl use has made the struggle with addiction even more perilous. «I wanted to tell the story for Angus and for people who weren’t granted a second chance,» he added, stressing that he chose not to sugarcoat the reality of the crisis.
Euphoria is currently available to stream on HBO Max.
